For over 60,000 years before colonisation, Noongar people were much healthier than most Noongar people are today. To deal with ailments, Noongar people used a range of remedies, which included medicinal plants, steam baths, clay pits, charcoal and mud, massages and secret chants. Noongar people also lived on a wonderful larder of fresh fruit, vegetables and lean meat, in a land largely free from disease, with more exercise, less stress and supportive communities.
This workshop will provide an overview of commonly used trees and plants that continue to be used in the treatment of aches, pains, burns, colds, rashes, stings, bites and wounds; as well as commonly used proteins, trees, plants, shrubs and herbs that continue to be used to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
Participants will then have an opportunity to practice what they learn through the DIY Bush Lunch.
